DIY coloured pasta

How to colour pasta...

Step 1: Put pasta in ziplock bag.
Step 2: Put 1 tsp of vinegar in bag
Step 3: Put a required amount of coloured dye in bag (you can adjust this later on)
Step 4: Shake bag (once zipped shut that is!)... if you don't like the colour you can add more etc at this point.
Step 5: Lay out to dry (I normally use a baking tray lined with baking paper)
Step 6: Once dry the pasta is free to use!
Here is Miss 2 wearing a lovely red coloured pasta necklace!

  1. Fun! I saw Miss 2's necklace :) What is the vinegar for?

I have done this with coloured rice - using aquim gel to help the colour spread & dry faster (I wrote a post about it last year some time).

    1. The vinegar helps the food coloring dry faster so the pasta doesn't get soggy from being wet. You can use alcohol but obviously vinegar is a safer option when children are involved!

I do the same thing when we made coloured rice. I don't use aquim gel, I just use some vinegar.
