Fireproof your marriage

"Relationships are wonderful gifts given to us by God. As we read in the Bible, the most-intimate relationship is marriage between a husband and a wife. Unfortunately, relationships today are under more cultural and interpersonal pressure and stress than ever before in our history.

But it doesn't have to be that way. Together, we can make a long-term difference for healthy relationships and marriages, starting with yours!"
(this is the blurb written on their website)

Last month my husband and I watched Fireproof after a friend of mine recommended it. Aside from the obvious lack of acting skills (at times), the underlying message is undeniably confronting and moving. The basic storyline..."A heroic fireman locked in a failing marriage accepts his father's challenge to take part in a 40-day experiment designed to teach both husband and wife the true meaning of commitment in this faith-based marriage drama starring Kirk Cameron and Erin Bethea". (more here) After discussing the value of the movie we decided to purchase the study so that we could complete the 40 day challenge- which cost us about $10 from memory.

My husband and I have been together for 8 years and married for almost 6. We are not in a 'new' relationship and let's face it, the 'buzz' of excitement has left but the friendship and commitment to our relationship is something that we both cherish very much. Because of this we are both challenged to continue to grow and choose to focus once again on each other while keeping Christ as the head in our relationship.

Today we are embarking on the 40 day challenge. Our challenge today is to solely focus on saying nothing negative to each other. And... I must confess (living up to my name as the imperfect housewife) that I failed in the very first words I spoke to my husband and then he failed by pointing this out. The one mistake behind us, today we are encouraged to think before we speak today and show our love to each by being patient and caring. I'm excited!
What can you do to make a difference?

  1. We've got the movie - just haven't watched it yet. And we've got 'The Love Dare' - which we haven't done yet!! Gosh, we must get our act into gear!! Would love to hear how your challenge went.

  2. We aren't finished yet, we aren't doing it on days that my husband does 12 hour days because we barely see each other and he has done a lot of long days recently. So far so good though, an amazing marriage resource. Will blog about it soon.
